Advice for Interview day

How comfortable are you interacting with 'foreigners'? Do you have a thick accent? Are you comfortable in new situations out of your daily routine? These are somethings which will make even the best candidate look really bad in an interview. If you have no issues with the above and are confident, collected and stress free when dealing with profs, faculty, PD and PC then you will have no issues. Be courteous to everyone you meet, be polite but not quite. If you are shy and quiet by nature then remember that you have to speak up and stand out on the day of the interview. 'Wall flowers' rarely get the spot, so make sure you stand out in a positive way.
Practice speaking and conversing with american friends if you dont have american friends, then practice with your friends or relatives. There are also a few books available to that effect - on how to interview for residency. Isersons is one that comes up and so is a book by Dr. Desai [The Successful Match: 200 Rules to Succeed in the Residency Match by Rajani Katta and Samir P. Desai]

Prepare your answers for typical questions, check out the article for examples of sample Questions. Also be prepared to expand and clarify any point on your CV or personal statement. You dont want to be burned by not knowing your own CV. Most of all be your self and be natural.

Good Luck!
